The Platform Schools, Lagos, has emerged winner of the NNPC-SNEPCo and Chess in Slums Africa, Lagos State Schools Chess Championship.
Titled: ‘Powering progress through chess,’ the event was attended by students and founder, Chess in Slums Africa, Tunde Onakoya, as well as a former students’ union leader, Adewole Adeyinka, among others.
The school, represented by Nyuma Ferdinand, Adekanye Adejuwon, Obe Amir, Taiwo Olamide, and Taiwo Ibrahim, was rewarded with a cash prize of N500,000, while Sasa Community Junior and Secondary School, as first runner up won N300,000, while Abiolu School, Igando and Impetus Dominion Academy,as second runners-up, each received N100,000.
Director of Platform Schools, Lagos, Dr Bola Obe, also shared keys to the consistent academic and extra-curricular success of his students.
He attributed thisfeat to the school’s foundation of academic excellence, which is supported by a team of experienced and dedicated educators, who use innovative teaching methods to engage and inspire students.
Obe noted that the chess club, one of the most popular extra-curricular activities at the school, provided expert coaching and training to nurture students’ strategic thinking.
She attributed the secret of the school’s success to its holistic approach to education.
Obe noted that the school’s achievements in academics and extra-curricular activities were a reflection of its commitment to providing a comprehensive education.
“We believe every child has the potential to excel, and we are committed to helping our students realise their full potentials,” he added.
