UI holds 2025/2026 Post-UTME as 14,000 candidates seek admission

The University of Ibadan (UI) has commenced its Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post-UTME) screening for the 2025/2026 academic session, with over 14,000 candidates competing for admission into Nigeria’s premier university.

The screening exercise, which began on Monday, attracted thousands of prospective undergraduates seeking placements across the institution’s various degree programmes.

However, despite the large pool of applicants, the university is expected to admit fewer than 5,000 candidates in line with its admission quota.

At the commencement of the exercise, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Peter Olapegba, alongside other senior officials of the institution, was on the ground to monitor the smooth conduct of the process.

Medical personnel from the university’s clinic were also deployed to the venues to provide healthcare support and ensure the well-being of both candidates and staff.

According to records, the University of Ibadan admitted about 4,215 students during the previous admission cycle.
The stiff competition underscores UI’s long-standing reputation for academic excellence and the rising demand for higher education in Nigeria.

The Post-UTME exercise is expected to continue through the week, with results serving as a key determinant in the compilation of the university’s final admission list for the 2025/2026 session.
