Security firm foils pipeline vandalism attempt in Rivers communities

The Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) has foiled attempts at pipeline vandalism in Bonny, Eteo (Eleme), Ikata and Ogbo in Rivers communities through improved vigilance and community intelligence.

This is as the security firm offered “pro bono” security services to all oil and gas assets in the Niger Delta region.

General Manager, Community Relations and Stakeholders Engagement of PINL, Dr Akpos Mezeh, disclosed this in Port Harcourt on Thursday during the monthly stakeholders’ meeting for its host communities in Rivers, Imo and Abia states.

He said the successes have directly translated to improved national oil and gas output, contributing to the lowest crude losses in over sixteen years.

He urged stakeholders to scale up vigilance and real-time community intelligence around the assets in the interest of national security.

He said: “We have strengthened our logistics, communication and operational synergy to enhance field response and intelligence sharing, to ensure issues are logged, tracked and resolved promptly.”

Mezeh noted that the firm has maintained zero infractions and uninterrupted operations on the Trans Niger Pipelines, TNP, sustained oil and gas operations in the Eastern Corridor, increased host community trust fund and ensured peace in the communities, amongst others.

On environmental and social impact support, Mezeh said PINL is collaborating with relevant government agencies and environmental experts on joint assessments to identify priority areas for remediation and social investment.

The PINL official said it has granted the inclusion of Biseni in Bayelsa State and other deserving communities in its surveillance engagements, adding that recommendations have been submitted to the appropriate authorities for the inclusion of more communities that host critical oil and gas assets in the Eastern Corridor.

“We reaffirm that PINL is not just a pipeline protection company; we are a development partner, committed to transforming lives, promoting peace and building enduring prosperity through purposeful collaboration,” Mezeh affirmed.

While appreciating communities and security agencies for the support and collaboration, the company urged youths and women of the communities to remain cooperative and committed to sustaining the peace in the areas.

In August 2025, the Ijaw National Congress (INC) has called on host communities and stakeholders in the Niger Delta to give full support to PINL, the surveillance firm securing the Eastern Corridor, including the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP).

Speaking at PINL’s August stakeholders meeting in Bayelsa State, INC President, Professor Benjamin Okaba, praised the company for its zero-infraction record on the TNP over the past months and its consistent engagement with host communities.

He said, “PINL has shown they are one of us. They are not foreigners,” Okaba said.

“The fact that they have recorded zero infractions shows they are doing well. They may not be perfect, but there are clear signals they are ready to do better and carry everybody along. I urge our youths to stay patient, avoid vandalism, and take advantage of the livelihood packages provided.”
