The Kano State Executive Council has approved a supplementary budget of ₦169.52 billion for the 2025 fiscal year to accelerate infrastructure development and improve the delivery of basic social services across the state.
With the approval of the supplementary appropriation, Kano’s total budget for 2025 now stands at ₦889.28 billion, up from the original figure of ₦719.76 billion signed into law earlier in the year.
Addressing journalists after the Council’s 30th meeting on Friday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Waiya, said the additional funding was designed to enhance the government’s capacity to meet its core developmental mandates and respond to emerging needs.
He disclosed that the supplementary budget has been transmitted to the Kano State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and passage.
Waiya explained that ₦14.83 billion has been earmarked for projects aligned with the administration’s people-centred development priorities, particularly in health, water supply, infrastructure, and rural development. He said the Ministry of Works was allocated ₦11.8 billion for road construction and infrastructure upgrades. These include the revocation and re-award of contracts for the construction of Jaba-Gayawa Road at a cost of ₦3.75 billion, the dualization of Dakata-Yadakunya (Bela) Road at ₦6.15 billion, and the construction of Badgery Road to Yusuf Road in Nassarawa Local Government Area valued at ₦522 million.
In the health sector, ₦1.66 billion was approved for various rehabilitation works, while ₦1.38 billion was allocated for the conversion of the Gaya Orphanage Home into a Female Drug Reformatory Institute and the construction of a standard transit centre in Gaya Local Government Area.
The Ministry of Land and Physical Planning received an allocation of ₦882.97 million, which includes ₦129 million for the printing of security documents by the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting PLC and ₦753.96 million for the expansion of the ministry’s operational scope.
The Ministry of Water Resources was allocated ₦310 million to procure 120,000 litres of diesel and 17,000 litres of petrol for February 2025. Additionally, the Ministry for Rural and Community Development received ₦169.63 million for the rehabilitation of five mini earth dams across various local government areas, including Madobi, Gwarzo, Garun Malam, Kibiya, and Ajingi.
Waiya said the supplementary budget reflects the government’s continued commitment to strengthening infrastructure and improving the standard of living for residents of Kano State.
