The Anglican Communion Brigades, Diocese of Lagos West, has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering spiritual growth and leadership development among its members.
During the Chaplains and Officers Conference themed “Be a Beacon of Light”, the event, held in Lagos, brought together Chaplains and officers for a time of teaching, reflection, and encouragement in their service to God and the church.
Commandant of the Anglican Communion Brigades, Diocese of Lagos West, Mrs. Oluyemisi Taiwo, emphasised the significance of the annual gathering. “This conference aims to gear up the Chaplains and officers. It is a once-a-year gathering where we teach ourselves the way of the Lord and prepare ourselves toward the Kingdom of God,” she stated.
Taiwo further charged the officers and Chaplains to embrace the theme of the conference, urging them to “be a beacon of light.”
Speaking on the collective efforts of the Brigades, she noted, “We are all working together for the promotion of the Anglican Communion, and we are preparing ourselves for the heavenly race. As the Commandant of the Brigade, I will work for the betterment of the officers and the Anglican Communion at large and leave it better than I met it—spiritually, physically, and mentally.”
A significant highlight of the conference was the unveiling of the Lagos West Brigades Maiden Newsletter, marking a milestone in Taiwo’s first year in office. She assured members that the Brigade is committed to further growth and development.
“By next year, as we celebrate our second year in office, we are going to have our headquarters office and a music school for the Anglican Communion Lagos West Brigades,” she announced.
Taiwo also expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who have supported the Brigade’s vision.
“I appreciate all the Chaplains, Executives (Diocesan, Zonal, and Archdeaconry), and Officers for their commitment and support in attending our programs. I also appreciate our Patrons, Patronesses, friends, lovers, and supporters. God will reward your labor of love in Jesus’ name.”
The Deputy Commandant, Mr. Olaniyi Daniel, underscored the significance of the conference, stating, “The purpose of this conference is not short of rendering stewardship. This programme goes a long way in impacting our officers, due to its long-standing record of making future leaders among us.”
He also pointed out how the unveiling of the newsletter will enhance transparency and awareness about the Brigade’s activities.
“The unveiling of the newsletter will now liberate our members to be informed of what is happening within and outside this organisation. Many had thought we act like secret cults, but far from it. This newsletter will educate and enlighten everyone on our modus operandi going forward.”
The Newsletter Coordinator, who played a pivotal role in bringing the maiden edition to reality, shared insights into the journey of the publication. “The executive gave me this role to ensure that this committee comes to the limelight. This committee needed a driver, and that’s why I came on board. Otherwise, this committee only required a secretary from the executive.”
He acknowledged the challenges faced in launching the publication but expressed gratitude for its successful release. “Our journey has been very tight because many are yet to fully understand the importance of the newsletter. But I give God all the glory for making this first edition a reality for us in less than 12 months. This newsletter could not be achieved during the last dispensation, but God granted us the grace to make it happen.”
Looking ahead, the team is committed to ensuring the sustainability of the newsletter. “We intend to sustain the continuity of this newsletter beyond our term in office by putting up a standard process in place. By so doing, there will be continuity.”
