As preparations gather momentum and countdown begins for the maiden of Edo Carnival 2025, a spectacular celebration that promises to leave spectators spellbound and yearning for more, the state capital, Benin City, is gearing up to unleash a riot of colour, rhythm, and joy upon the world.
Themed “Our Culture, Our Pride”, the week-long celebration will light up the ancient city from December 21 to 27, showcasing the rich heritage, music, and artistry of the Edo people in a grand display of culture and creativity.
According to the organisers, Peak Rendezvous Entertainment Global Ltd, the Edo Carnival 2025, promises to transform the ancient city into Nigeria’s cultural capital, drawing visitors, tourists, and performers from across the country and beyond for seven unforgettable days of entertainment, unity, and pride.
Speaking on the upcoming fiesta, Mr. Daniel Eromosele, CEO of Peak Rendezvous Entertainment Global Ltd, said, “With a week-long extravaganza packed with masquerade performances, street parades, and cultural exhibitions, Benin City will transform into a kaleidoscope of music, dance, and artistry, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Edo people.
“Edo Carnival is more than an event; it’s a celebration of who we are as a people. This year, we’re blending history with innovation to create a cultural experience that will not only entertain but also inspire pride and connection among Edo sons and daughters and, indeed, all lovers of African culture.”
He stated that the carnival will unfold in multiple phases: the pre-launch activities running from October 1 to November 30, is designed to build excitement through media campaigns, influencer engagement, and city wide promotions. This will be followed by the launch phase from December 1 to 20, featuring band activations, challenges, and community events, and finally, the carnival week from December 21 to 27.
“This year’s carnival is shaping up to be the most unforgettable yet. Benin City will burst into life with parades, concerts, and cultural showcases at the Garrick, Memorial, and Ekehuan Road,” Eromosele added.
Echoing this sentiment, the chairman of the Carnival Committee, who also is the state’s Commissioner for Finance, Hon Emmanuel Okoebor, described the carnival as a bridge between culture and development:
“Through this carnival, Edo State is showcasing its rich cultural heritage while promoting tourism, creativity, and youth empowerment. It’s a statement that Edo is open for culture, business, and global collaboration,” he said.
Highlights of the 2025 carnival include the Grand Opening Ceremony, December 21; the Cultural Band Competition and Night Concert, December 22; the Trade Fair and Comedy Show, December 23; Pageant Night, December 24; the Christmas Family Fiesta, December 25; the Grand Band Parade, December 26; and the Awards and Closing Concert, December 27, to be presided over by the Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
