Firm seeks students’ return from abroad to boost Nigeria’s economy
A global financial services provider focused on education and mobility solutions, Proconnect, has advocated for Nigerian students who study abroad to return home to contribute to the country’s economic development.
The global CEO, Elda David Samuel, made this call during a chat with reporters at a global press conference organised by Proconnect on how Nigerians can successfully secure international loans to pursue studies abroad.
“Our objective is not to promote ‘Japa,’ as the case may be, but we actually preach ‘Japada,’ meaning we encourage Nigerian students who study abroad to return home and contribute to the economy,” Elda said.
“Whenever we talk to people, we emphasise that they should pursue their aspiration of studying abroad. However, people tend to misconstrue this, believing Proconnect is promoting mass migration or ‘Japa.’
“The truth is, at Proconnect, we advocate for intentional and purposeful migration. Students can acquire education abroad that enables them to return, launch a startup, establish a business, or join a blue-chip company back home.
“By doing so, whether through a first degree or postgraduate studies, students who have studied abroad will be contributing their quota to Nigeria’s economic growth.”
Elda also noted that many professionals who acquire education and work experience abroad eventually return to Nigeria to serve as technocrats in government, becoming ministers or political appointees.
“Without that global education and experience, they probably wouldn’t be in the positions they hold today,” he added.
As part of its commitment to making global education more accessible to Nigerians and Africans, Proconnect’s recent event brought together professionals, journalists, and international financial partners.
The company emphasised the transformative power of education as a crucial tool for national development, stating that this belief underpins its operations.
Proconnect offers tailored financing for students to access over 5,000 universities in 17 countries, including Canada, the United Kingdom (UK), the United States (US), and China. Their services also cover essential relocation expenses, ensuring a seamless transition abroad.
Through global partnerships, Proconnect aims to empower students to focus on their academic and career goals, handling the financial logistics on their behalf.
The company promotes intentional and purpose-driven immigration that supports Nigeria’s economic development. For this reason, Elda said they encourage young and middle-aged Nigerians to take advantage of opportunities to gain international education.
“Looking ahead, we are excited to continue working closely with our partners and stakeholders to create even greater opportunities for African students. Together, we can shape a future where access to global education becomes a reality for all,” Elda concluded.
