In Pictures: Shocking state of Abuja school with cracked walls, collapsing beams

The Junior Secondary School Kilankwa 2 in Kwali Area Council, Abuja, built as a citadel of learning for student is now marred by cracked walls and weak structural beams.

Upon its recent visit to the school which is situated in Nigeria’s seat of power, a civil society organisation (CSO), MonITNG, described the sight as horrible and the building as a death trap for students and teachers.

The CSO revealed the details of their visit to the school in a statement shared on X.

“We visited Junior Secondary School Kilankwa 2 in Kwali Area Council, Abuja, and what we saw was horrible. The building is a death trap cracked walls, weak structural beams danger looms over students and teachers every day,” the statement read in part.

Students are left with no choice but to study in the school despite the deplorable condition.

Recently, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, announced that his administration has renovated and furnished over 60 schools in the region. The CSO, however questioned the minister’s claim.

“If that’s true, why has Kilankwa 2 been left out?” MonITNG questioned.

“This stark contrast highlights misplaced priorities. Billions are going into glossy projects, yet one of our own schools where our children learn is sidelined. It’s shameful.”

It also appealed to the FCT Minister, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Ministry of Education to explain why the school is a citadel unfit for learning and why it has been neglected over the years.

“We call on @GovWike, @OfficialFCTA and @NigEducation to explain: Where are these 60 schools? Why isn’t Kilankwa 2 included? Lives should come before optics and children deserve better. #FixPublicSchools,” MonITNG added.
