MTN Nigeria has partnered with renowned chef Taylor Odeja, professionally known as Chef Taylor, to spotlight Nigeria’s culinary heritage during The Gold Standard event, a monthly dinner series organised by The Colony and Chef Taylor.
The event, held at the Decency Event Centre, featured live performances by the Resistance Band and a vibrant fashion showcase celebrating Nigerian culture. Guests were treated to a variety of Nigerian-themed dishes, crafted by Chef Taylor, reflecting the country’s diverse flavors and culinary traditions.
In an interview with The Guardian, Chef Taylor commended MTN Nigeria for supporting initiatives that promote cultural heritage and local enterprise. He said the event not only celebrates Nigeria’s rich culinary history but also boosts the local economy by providing opportunities for musicians, mixologists, and kitchen staff.
“It’s fascinating to see how we can transform traditional ingredients like plantain and yams into exquisite dishes, creatively combined with creams, butters, and a variety of herbs to enhance their flavours. We’re showcasing the rich and diverse culture of Nigeria. This type of meal can be enjoyed anywhere in the world, even in Europe, where it could command prices of $200, and people would be eager to pay for it,” Chef Taylor said.
The Gold Standard dinner series continues to serve as a platform for culinary enthusiasts and food lovers to experience high-end interpretations of Nigeria’s gastronomic heritage.
