Journalist urges BOSAN on member’s conduct

A Lagos-based journalist and media consultant, Mr Kunle Rotimi has appealed to the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) to advise a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Babajide Oladipupo to eschew adversarial and acrimonious stance against him in his case with the National University Commission (NUC).

In a letter to the BOSAN chairman, Rotimi raised serious concerns over what he described as consistent misrepresentations and procedural infractions by the senior lawyer in his legal matter.

Rotimi, referencing a petition submitted to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC), cited multiple alleged infractions including perjury, forgery, and abuse of court process.

According to the letter, Oladipupo allegedly filed a motion in defence of contempt of court charges, which, the petitioner (Rotimi) claimed, contained elements of perjury.

The petitioner further stated that these instances of falsehood appear recurrently in various court filings submitted by the SAN as documented in his communication with the LPDC.

In August 2020, following a judgment by a trial court, the SAN reportedly filed a motion for a stay of execution allegedly containing forged content.

Rotimi said he refuted the motion via a counter-affidavit which, according to him, was never challenged or argued before the appeal was filed purportedly beyond the constitutionally allowed time.

Rotimi also reported a disturbing incident in which approximately 45 pages of critical evidence were allegedly removed from his court file.

He noted that the judiciary restored the documents from backup records and praised the judiciary’s integrity in handling the situation. Calling for professional accountability, Rotimi appealed to BOSAN to counsel Oladipupo towards a resolution grounded in professional ethics and mutual respect.

“I most humbly plead with the prestigious BOSAN to kindly advise the respected Oladipupo (SAN) to do the needful by eschewing his adversarial, acrimonious and desperate stance on this matter. This will be in the best interest of his noble profession, revered status, and personal integrity,” Rotimi said.

When contacted, Oladipupo declined to comment on the matter.
