UNILAG students on study field trips to LFZ, LADOL, FAAN

Students of Master and Doctor of Urban Logistics and Transport Management programmes of University of Lagos Business School, University of Lagos, participated in a study field trip to the Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFZ), Federal Airport Authority and Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics Base (LADOL) as part of efforts to complement their theoretical class learning with practical.

Speaking during the visit to LFZ, Associate Professor of Transport and Logistics at the University of Lagos, Olayinka Agunloye, called for greater emphasis on functional transport facilities within the Lekki Free Zone (LFZ), noting that while the zone offers world-class infrastructure and business incentives, more can be done to improve mobility for workers and residents.

“The infrastructure here is impressive, from 24-hour electricity to access roads and security, but the implementation of the transport master plan must go further. Public transport for artisans, domestic staff, and others without private vehicles should be prioritised,” he said.

The multi-day tour, which began at the Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics Base (LADOL), gave the students exposure to warehousing operations, inbound and outbound logistics, and third-party logistics services before visiting the LFZ’s industrial and commercial facilities.

Zone officials highlighted its duty-free trade environment, 24MW in-house power plant, natural gas supply, water reticulation, and proximity to the Lekki Deep Seaport, Dangote Refinery, and proposed Lekki International Airport.

Agunloye also praised the zone’s openness to corporate social responsibility, citing community projects such as school construction, ICT centres, and medical outreach.

“With its strategic location and operational advantages, the free zone can drive significant economic growth. The real test will be ensuring the infrastructure works for everyone who needs it.”
