WHO is God? Why God? Why do we pray to God? Is God real? Is it possible to know Him? What does the Bible say about Him? All these questions are natural because nobody has actually seen God before. Moses wished to see God, but he could only behold nothing but an indescribable glory: nothing like mortals, nothing like a human body, appeared at any time to his eyes, or those of the Israelites. “But be careful! You did not see the Lord’s form on the day He spoke to you from the fire at Mount Sinai. So, do not corrupt yourselves by making a physical image in any form—whether of a man or a woman, an animal or a bird, a creeping creature or a fish. And when you look up into the sky and see the sun, moon, and stars—all the forces of heaven—don’t be seduced by them and worship them” (Deut. 4:15-19).
By the term ‘GOD’ we mean a perfect, conscious, intelligent Being, Who is from eternity, the cause and Creator of all things. The word God was mentioned over 30 times in the first book of the Bible because He wants man to know that ‘He is the Supreme Being.’
The writers of the Scriptures confirmed the pre-existence of God. The first chapter of the Bible opens with God in action. “In the beginning God….,” and the last chapter of Bible ends with Christ, “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ…” (Gen.1:1; Rev. 22:21). Furthermore, every chapter of the Scriptures tells us about God’s existence, subsequent chapters from Genesis through the Revelation acknowledge His presence, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”-John 1:1.
While intellectual content and accurate information are an inseparable part of the Scriptures, it was given to bring man into a life-transforming, personal relationship with God.
The Bible asserts that only God is eternal, without beginning and end, but man is an infinite being: “So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom”-Psalm 90:12. God has made the whole universe and He sustains it exclusively (Psalm 19:1). The Almighty God, from many His Word in the Bible speaks of Who He is. Let me cite the case of the manifestation of God to Moses through a burning bush. It got to a point during the conversation between God and Moses that God needed to introduce Himself to Moses. He said, “I AM THE ONE WHO ALWAYS IS. Just tell them, ‘I AM has sent me to you” (Exodus 3:14)
Apart from what His Word says, His Works have without doubt proven of a God without equal. In fact, the level of faith that is required to believe there is no God is greater than otherwise.
“From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see His invisible qualities — His eternal power and divine nature. So, they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God”(Rom.1:20).
