K-pop Group BTS J-Hope, Begins Military Service In South Korea

J-Hope, a member of the Grammy-nominated K-pop group BTS, has commenced his mandatory military service in South Korea, becoming the second member of the group to do so.

He kept a low profile during his enlistment ceremony in Wonju, 87 kilometres away from Seoul.

J-Hope, whose real name is Jung Ho-seok, posted a picture of his shaved head on the fan platform Weverse and assured fans of his safe return.

While more than 10,000 fans sent their well wishes, representatives from HYBE declined to confirm the details of his enlistment.

All able-bodied men in South Korea aged 18 to 28 must serve in the military for 18 to 21 months.

Some lawmakers have suggested granting an exemption to BTS members from mandatory military service to allow them to continue performing.
