Just like adults, babies also have dry scalps. However, before any attempt is made t using home remedies, it is essential to find out the reason for your baby’s dry scalp. It could be as a result of dandruff or what is known as cradle cap.

According to Healthline, cradle cap causes thick, oily patches on the scalp that may range from white to yellow in color. If your baby has cradle cap on the scalp, they may also have these patches in other oily areas of the body, such as their armpits, groin, and ears. Cradle cap doesn’t itch and doesn’t bother your baby.

If your baby has dry scalp. Below are some home remedies that can be helpful.

Protection from dry heat
Children react to heat more than adults do. While being in a hot environment may not do you harm, it could dehydrate your baby and lead to problems like dry skin, scalp and eventually the cradle cap.

Ensure your baby is in a room with comfortable temperatures all the time. In cases when you cannot control exposure to dry heat, use a humidifier to ensure your baby’s skin and ensure the scalp, is not exposed.

Use Olive and Mineral Oil
Mineral oil is thought to help loosen stuck-on flakes left on the scalp and help reduce symptoms of cradle cap.

To use mineral oil, gently massage the oil onto your baby’s scalp before shampooing. For extra benefits, run a comb over the scalp to loosen the flakes. Let the oil soak in for a few minutes before rinsing off.

However, if your baby has dandruff or eczema, you may consider an olive oil scalp massage instead of mineral oil. The olive oil should be applied the same way the mineral oil is used.

Use Moisturiser
If you apply a moisturizer whilst your baby’s hair is still damp, it will help trap the moisture and prevent your little one’s skin from becoming dry and scaly.
