Anita Baker is embarking on her solo tour following allegations of online bullying from fans of fellow singer and songwriter Babyface.

She took to Twitter to share the news, stating, “After enduring cyberbullying, verbal abuse, and threats of violence from the fan base of our special guest/support act, I have decided to continue ‘The Songstress Tour’ alone for personal safety reasons. Refunds will be issued accordingly. Blessings.”

In response, Babyface expressed his sadness on his own social media accounts, writing, “I am saddened by the news that Anita Baker has chosen to remove me from ‘The Songstress Tour.’ It’s unfortunate and disheartening to witness how things have unfolded through social media.

While I was excited for the upcoming dates, I hold nothing but love and respect for Anita, and I wish her the best for the remainder of her tour.”

The disagreement began on May 10 when Babyface was slated to surprise audiences as a guest on Baker’s tour. He tweeted an apology to disappointed fans, saying, “I sincerely apologize to my fans who were eagerly awaiting our performance tonight at @PruCenter. I was asked not to perform to allow Ms. Baker the space and time to deliver her complete show. My band and I are deeply saddened that we couldn’t perform for you all tonight.”

This announcement displeased some of Babyface’s fans, who started attacking Baker online. On Monday, Baker reached out to Babyface via Twitter, pleading for his intervention. She wrote, “Kenny’s Crazies are online bullies. @Babyface, please address your fans. I have always been kind and supportive of you as the special guest/support on my tour.”

To address complaints and misconceptions about the tour, Baker later tweeted, “Yes, Babyface is the special guest/support act on my tour. The false narrative of us being co-headliners has created unrealistic expectations and aggression from his fans towards me. He should tell you the truth, guys.”
