Nollywood actress Ajara Lasisi, popularly known as Aunty Ajara, has been buried in line with Islamic customs.

She died in the early hours of Thursday, her family confirmed.

Her brother, Ridwan Lasisi, shared the news in a video message, where he thanked Nigerians and members of the film industry who supported her during her illness.

“Good morning to you all. My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am a brother to Ajara. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on,” he said.

“All the families, we are using this period to appreciate you all. We appreciate the president and all industry members.

“We also use this opportunity to appeal to those sending money not to send it anymore. The one we are contributing for her sake is no more. Thank you so much. We do not want you to send money into that account again.”

In the days leading to her death, her health struggles had sparked public appeals for financial help from colleagues.

Footage from the burial showed clerics leading prayers as relatives and sympathisers gathered to pay their final respects. Emotions ran high as mourners offered prayers for the late actress.

Following Islamic tradition, she was wrapped in white fabric, covered with a mat and then lowered into the grave prepared for her.

Tributes have continued online, with fans and colleagues expressing grief over her passing.

Her colleague, Aunty Ramota, shared that she had planned to visit her before receiving the sad news.

She wrote on Instagram, “My dear friend Aunty Hajara has gone. I was coming to see you with my sister but you couldn’t wait. Rest in perfect peace.”

Aunty Ajara was known for her appearances in Yoruba movies and skits, where she often played comic and supporting roles. She died after a prolonged illness that had drawn concern across the industry.

The exact burial location has not been disclosed as of the time of this report.
