Unclaimed, a new psychological thriller directed by Biodun Stephen, has officially opened in cinemas across Nigeria following a private premiere at Alliance Française in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Starring Kunle Remi, Timini Egbuson, Elma Mbadiwe, Teniola Aladese, and Omowunmi Dada, the film presents a tense narrative centred on trauma, memory, and personal identity. Set against the backdrop of emotional loss, ‘Unclaimed’ explores the psychological unravelling of its characters as they navigate fractured relationships and confront hidden truths.
Produced by Kayode Kasum of FilmTrybe, the film aims to push Nollywood’s genre boundaries. Kasum described the project as “a deeply emotional journey into family, identity, and the unspoken truths that shape us,” and said the team is eager for audiences to engage with a story that is both grounded and challenging.
The film is the first feature from Hook Entertainment and is being distributed by FilmOne Entertainment in collaboration with FilmTrybe.
FilmOne’s Chief Content Officer, Ladun Awobokun, said the company’s focus is on promoting local content that is bold and refined. She noted that ‘Unclaimed’ reflects FilmOne’s goal of bringing more genre-driven narratives to Nigerian cinemas.
Attendees at the premiere included filmmakers, media partners, actors, and other stakeholders in the Nigerian creative industry.
The release forms part of a broader strategy to elevate indigenous storytelling across the cinema space, both locally and internationally.
