Nigerian filmmaker Chinenye ‘Chichi’ Nworah added to her growing list of accolades at the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), where she secured the Best Scripted M-Net Original award for her romantic drama series My Fairytale Wedding.

The award ceremony, held over the weekend, marked yet another high point in Nworah’s career, following a series of critically acclaimed productions. In 2023, her gritty crime thriller Shanty Town earned ten AMVCA nominations and was named Netflix’s most-streamed African Original in Nigeria for the first half of the year. In 2024, she also won the same M-Net award category for Slum King, a drama praised for its unflinching portrayal of survival in Lagos’ urban slums.

Nworah’s latest winning project, My Fairytale Wedding, is a romantic series that follows the journey of Moji, a successful baker played by Ini Edo, whose personal life is plagued by misfortune in love. Set against a backdrop of Lagos affluence, the series navigates themes of family expectation, heartbreak, and rediscovery, with performances from Ramsey Noah, Carolyn Hutchings, and Lilian Esoro.

Produced by Nworah’s Giant Creative Studios as part of the M-Net Original line-up, the series has attracted favourable reviews for its storytelling, casting, and cultural resonance. Online reactions praised the chemistry among the cast and the emotional range of the plot. Viewers also commended its portrayal of contemporary Nigerian society through the lens of romantic drama.

Publications including Encomium and SocietyNow described the production as more than just a conventional love story. Encomium noted, “My Fairytale Wedding is not just a story; it’s an experience,” highlighting its blend of emotion, opulence, and cultural insight.

Following the AMVCA announcement, Nworah expressed gratitude to her team on social media, celebrating the win and teasing new projects under her production banner. While she did not provide specific details, her post has sparked speculation among fans about forthcoming series from the award-winning studio.

With My Fairytale Wedding, Nworah continues to assert her influence in a fast-evolving Nigerian television landscape, blending genre storytelling with social commentary to engage audiences across platforms.
