Nollywood actors Scarlet Gomez, Tomi Ojo, Shamz Garuba and veteran actress Bimbo Akintola are set to star in a new Lagos-based drama film titled Somewhere Near Love (SNL), which completed principal photography in January 2026.
The film, produced by Blaiton Production, centres on the emotional lives of young adults navigating grief, loss, addiction and isolation.
Set within everyday Lagos, the story focuses on personal struggles often hidden behind public appearances, offering a grounded portrayal of love shaped by pain rather than idealised romance.
The project brings together a mix of established names and emerging talents. Other cast members include Bimbo Manuel, Iremide Adeoye, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Mallum Arik, Victory Adeoeye, Raymond Umenze, Gbemi Akinlade, Fisayo Fosudo and Seyi Ademeso.
Executive producer Gafar Gbolahan said the film marked a shift from more conventional storytelling approaches in Nollywood.
“This project is very different from anything we’ve done before. It’s bold, emotionally resonant, and intentionally crafted to meet global audience while staying deeply rooted in a Nigerian story. I’m excited for audiences to finally see it,” he said.
The film is directed by Gbolahan Gafar, with cinematography by Lucas Oluwole. Producers on the project are Olayemi Oshodi and Bolanle Onifade, while the executive production team also includes Fisayo Fosudo, Moyin Osho and Faruk Sanni.
Members of the production team say the project was shaped by young creatives seeking to tell stories reflective of their generation.
The narrative avoids tidy conclusions and instead focuses on the complexity of emotional survival, a direction increasingly seen in contemporary Nigerian cinema as filmmakers move towards more character driven storytelling.
Post-production work is currently ongoing. Details of the film’s release date and distribution are expected to be announced in the coming months.
