In celebration of all that is sweet and cold in the world, we have taken the liberty of indulging you and giving you ideas on where you should be celebrating this holiday for you and your family. Reason being that anything that involves ice cream is definitely worth celebrating. We stopped by two popular ice cream spots you can try out for the special day!

Hans and Rene is located at 270 Ozumba Mbadiwe Ave, Eti-Osa, Lagos and it’s open between 10AM and 8PM. It is in the same compound as Radisson Blue Hotel. The space is nice and bright, not big enough for large groups at a time but perfect for a date. Cold stone has a number of branches, but we went to the branch inside the Dominos at 69B Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase I; not our ideal date spot but it’s perfect for a family outing.

Hans and Rene

Tiramisu
This is a regular at Hans and Rene and according to the description, the flavour contains alcohol which is an automatic no-no for the kids. Although we were not sure what to expect when you have the combination of ice cream and alcohol, this was definitely more ice cream than any alcohol. In general, the ice cream was mild to taste and was a delight to have. On second thoughts, we should have had two scoops for the road.

Malted milk gelato
If you are a Malteaser fan, then you’ll definitely love this special scoop from Hans and Rene. It has simple a sweet vanilla taste with a hint of deep malt and just the right amount of sweetness. If you are a vanilla lover, this is perfect because you won’t be stepping out of the box too much. If you also want that extra kick they can add a few balls of Malteasers, which will match the malted icecream perfectly. More than one scoop might be a bit nauseating after a while as the taste gets really milky towards the end.

Cold Stone’s Chocolate devotion

Chocolate Devotion
This signature mix from Coldstone was not the best option in hindsight. Maybe a simple flavour would have done the trick but where’s the fun if you can’t experiment with your ice cream and even better if you are offered signature mixes that we assume have been tested and tried. This mix was a little too sweet and definitely requires you brushing your teeth after. The choice of going with a cone was probably also not the brightest idea as this made the experience a drippy and sticky one. However, this was the highlight of our ice cream affair.
