Big Brother Naija season four winner, Mercy Eke, has once again reminded fans why her victory remains one of the most defining moments in the show’s history.

In a recent interview with Bella Naija, the reality TV star revealed that her journey to the house was carefully planned, and motivated by a desire to inspire women.

“When I was going for BBN, I calculated all the days we would be in the show for, and I packed for the 99 days. I was ready,” she said. “When I won, I did it for all the young women who have been told that they can’t. I am happy I did it for women. See now, we have other female winners, and we will still have more young ladies that will go on the show and win.”

Mercy’s statement quickly caught the attention of social media users, especially on X (formerly Twitter), where fans had mixed reactions. While some praised her confidence and acknowledged her role in paving the way for female housemates, others dismissed her claims as self glorifying.

One user, @Detolarnee, wrote: “I’m sorry, but you did not do anything. If they did not disqualify Tacha, you actually stood no chance.” Another user, @Heylumi_s, commented, “You did it for yourself.”

Despite the backlash, many fans rallied behind the reality star, describing her as an icon who changed the trajectory of women on the show. One user, @Sassenacker, wrote “This lady is ever grateful and humble, tries not to bring controversy to the show, and thrives with growth stories. With these qualities, she’ll continue to do well in life.”

Mercy made history in 2019 as the first woman to win Big Brother Naija, a victory that elevated her career and also reshaped the public perception of female housemates in the competition. Since then, the show has seen more women emerge as finalists and even winners, a shift many attribute to her trailblazing journey.
