Often times, the world both directly and indirectly tells us that we shouldn’t be happy with ourselves if we don’t fit certain beauty standards.

Everyone wants to be flawless. We want the perfect type of attention and have no limits. We wish to have been moulded into a perfect form. But what really is a perfect form?

No matter what you think, no one is perfect. We all have our imperfections and that is what makes us so unique. Embrace your uniqueness and do not bend or shape yourself into a mould for other people.

Even when people make hurtful comments, stare at you openly or laugh, don’t let it get to you. You need to know that you are beautiful just the way you are.

She don’t see her perfect
She don’t understand she’s worth it
Or that beauty goes deeper than the surface
She has dreams to be an envy, so she’s starving
You know, “Covergirls eat nothing.”
She says, “Beauty is pain and there’s beauty in everything.”

Alessia Cara, in her song “Scars to your Beautiful”, talks about cover girls not being able to cry once their faces are made up. The “perfect” person here is referred to as the cover girl. The person people look up to. Smiling for cameras, being the face of magazines and all. But these “perfect” people are imperfect too. They hide their pain under the perfect face, and other people tend to forget that they are human beings too. They aren’t perfect; they have feelings and blood running through their veins like everyone else.

There’s a hope that’s waiting for you in the dark
You should know you’re beautiful just the way you are
And you don’t have to change a thing
The world could change its heart
No scars to your beautiful
We’re stars and we’re beautiful

Scars to Your Beautiful is a reminder that beauty isn’t only one look, shape, size, or colour. It isn’t even always tangible. It comes in an endless amount of forms and we need to recognise that.

So, if you have not been feeling too beautiful lately, both inside and out, perhaps this will cheer you up. Press play below:
