Nigerian music producer Chisom Obinna Onyeke, widely known as JaySynths, is drawing renewed recognition from industry stakeholders following his recent contributions to projects by two of Nigeria’s leading artistes, Phyno and Burna Boy.
JaySynths, a graduate of Political Science from the University of Abuja who transitioned into music production, has been behind several commercially successful songs in the past decade. His catalogue includes Teni’s Case, Wait, and Power Rangers; Skiibii’s Daz How Star Do; Hotkid’s Ozana; Ice Prince and Mr Eazi’s In a Fix; Victor AD’s Doh; and Kuami Eugene’s Obiaato.
His latest credits include production on Phyno’s album Full Time Job, where he handled eleven tracks. Industry players note that this volume of work on a single project reflects the central role he played in shaping the album’s sound. In addition, JaySynths produced Born Winner on Burna Boy’s new album No Sign of Weakness, which has placed his work before an international audience.
A Lagos-based music executive, who requested not to be named, described JaySynths’ recent output as evidence of his command of contemporary production. “JaySynths is not just a producer; he understands the pulse of the Nigerian music scene. What he did with Phyno’s album and Burna Boy’s latest project shows that he is operating on a world-class level,” the executive said.
Similarly, a record label head observed that JaySynths’ contributions to Nigerian pop music have often been understated despite his consistent presence behind notable hits. “For years, JaySynths has quietly shaped some of the biggest sounds coming out of Nigeria. Now, the world is beginning to see the depth of his impact. His consistency is remarkable,” he said.
With these projects, observers say JaySynths’ influence is expanding beyond individual singles to entire projects that define the sound of established artistes. His work on both local and international platforms continues to position him among the producers shaping Nigeria’s contemporary soundscape and mentoring the next wave of music creators.
