Grammy-nominated Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said the death of his first son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, in 2022 has completely changed his outlook on life and reshaped his music career.
The award-winning artiste stated this in an interview with ABC News’ Rocsi Diaz, reflecting on the October 2022 tragedy when three-year-old Ifeanyi drowned in a swimming pool at his Banana Island residence in Lagos.
According to Davido, stepping away from the spotlight after the incident gave him clarity to re-evaluate his career path and personal life.
“Stepping away after losing my son and being able to look back into my career, gave me a refocus of how I wanted to move going forward. It changed my life,” he said.
He expressed pride in how he and his wife, Chioma, handled the painful experience, noting that their resilience has inspired many people.
“I know how many who randomly come to me at the airport to tell me how my strength has inspired them in hard times. I was telling my wife the other day that I’m proud of how we bounced back. Now, we got twins. They are big and shouting everywhere. For us to be able to go through the loss of our son and be able to bounce back in a major way is huge,” he added.
Davido and Chioma welcomed a set of twins in 2023, a blessing the singer often describes as a restoration of joy to their family.
