“Spider-Man: No Way Home” makes an impressive debut generating $587.2 million. Since its release, it ranks globally as the biggest worldwide debut in history. Beating its original projections by $123 million. However, 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame” and 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War” opened to larger numbers,$1.2 billion and $640 million, respectively.

Catching international attention, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” captured $334.2 million from 60 overseas markets. Domestically, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” made $235 million over the weekend, making it the third-best debut ever. Sony and Marvel Studios shelled out $200 million to produce the film and at least $100 million more for global marketing efforts.

The film’s opening weekend compared to the past “Spider-Man: Far From Home” is 72%, “Spider-Man: Homecoming” by 113%, “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” by 183%, “No Time to Die” by 113% and “F9: The Fast Saga” by 210%, according to Sony.

Despite the worry of the Omicron variant of covid, that did not slow its mighty performance over the weekend. Tom Rothman, Sony’s Motion Picture Group chairman and CEO says, “This weekend’s historic ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ results, from all over the world and in the face of many challenges, reaffirm the unmatched cultural impact that exclusive theatrical films can have when they are made and marketed with vision and resolve”. However, it is yet to secure a release date in China, one of the world’s biggest film markets.

“All of us at Sony Pictures, are deeply grateful to the fabulous talent, both in front of and behind the camera, that produced such a landmark film. Thanks to their brilliant work, this Christmas everyone can enjoy the big screen gift of 2021’s mightiest Super Hero — your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.”

Spider-Man: No Way Home was directed by Jon Watts, being the third chapter in Holland’s trilogy that takes place after Peter Parker’s identity is revealed to the world, turning the lives of his fictitious girlfriend MJ (Zendaya his real-life girlfriend), his best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) and his aunt May (Marisa Tomei).

Under pressure to restore their lives to normalcy, Peter sorts help from Doctor Strange played by Benedict Cumberbatch and accidentally unleashes a multiverse — featuring plenty of villains from the past of Peter Parker timelines. The villains; Jamie Foxx’s Electro Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Alfred Molina’s Doctor Otto Octavius and J cause havoc and torment Spider-Man.
