Tems makes it one of the top winners of this year’s BMI Awards in London. She clinches her award alongside other top Nigerian artists like Wizkid, CKay, P2J, Tempoe, Joeboy, and Kwame Eugene. Mike O’Neill, president and CEO of BMI, and Shirin Foroutan, vice president of creative for BMI Europe, presided over the ceremony.

P2J received recognition for his work on Wizkid and Tems’ “Essence.” Additionally honoured for their contributions to CKay’s “Love Nwantiti” were Tempoe, Joeboy, and Kwame Eugene.

For “her ground-breaking talent, creative vision, and impact on the future of music,” Tems received the Impact Award. A songwriter, producer, or composer who has had a significant impact on the direction of music is presented with the BMI Impact Award.

With her work on songs like Wizkid’s “Essence,” Drake’s “Fountain,” Future’s “Wait For U,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and Beyonce’s “Move,” Tems has been on a roll in 2022, smashing records. She has improved so much in the past several months, and this prize is evidence of that. In her speech of recognition on Monday at The Savoy hotel in London, Tems said she had come a long way and was appreciative.
