Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage has been teasing her fans on her social media pages for some weeks now using the figures “49-99”.

In one of her Instagram posts, the talented singer hinted that her first official global single would be released today, 5th of September. Well, the wait is finally over as the pop star has not just released the audio but an accompanying video to 49-99

Not only is the title unusual, but the “Ma Lo” crooner also said told fans earlier that it will be quite different from her usual songs and it appears so.

“49 sitting, 99 standing, oh my God o, I get money before no be property o”, Tiwa chants as she begins the first verse which chronicles her journey so far; from being broke to working hard and finally hitting it big.

The Meji Alabi-directed video which has an abstract feel portrays different scenarios which appear to represent her aforementioned journey. It also portrays a much bolder Tiwa Savage with each scene showing her off in daring looks and outfits.

49-99 is a  follow-up to her last body of work, Sugarcane EP which was released in 2017 under her previous label, Mavin. The EP featured hit songs such as All Over, Me and You, Ma Lo and many others.

Earlier in the week, the music diva also made the news when she took a stand against the recent xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa. She announced via her Twitter account saying she won’t be performing at the DSTV Delicious Festival in Johannesburg later this month.

“I refuse to watch the barbaric butchering of my people in SA. This is SICK. For this reason I will NOT be performing at the upcoming DSTV delicious Festival in Johannesburg on the 21st of September. My prayers are with all the victims and families affected by this.”

However, while we enjoy 49-99, we also believe that an album is on the way. Going by Tiwa Savage’s management, Efe Ogbeni, the project would be titled “The Shift”.
