10th anniversary: PHED fetes Rhema Orphanage Home, seeks collaboration with stakeholders

The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) has feted children of The Rhema Orphanage Home in Port Harcourt, where food items and other materials were donated to them.

The donation was part of the organisation’s week-long celebration to commemorate its achievements and milestone in the past decade, tagged: “PHED@10:The Journey so far.”

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PHED, Dr. Benson Uwheru, who led a team of staff to visit the homein Port Harcourt, said the visit was in line with the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policies.

Receiving the items, the Matron of the Home, Pastor Mrs. Josephine Israel Jaja thanked the MD and his team and prayed for the company for the donation.

Meanwhile, Dr Uwheru has called for partnership and collaboration among stakeholders in the power industry for improved service delivery.

He made the call when board members of PHED paid courtesy visits on both the Governors of Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.

The visits, which were part of gazette activities to commemorate the company’s 10 years anniversary in the NESI industry, were held at the Governors Offices in the Government House in Port Harcourt and Uyo respectively.

The visit to the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara was led by Chairman of the PHED Board, Olice Kemenanabo, an engineer.

Also on the team were Dr. Engr Matthew Edevbie, Mr. Toibudeen Oduniyi, Mr. Oghens Sanomi, Dr. Awa Ibraheem and the MD.
Similarly, the delegation paid a visit on the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Eno Emmanuel Umo in Akwa Ibom State Government House.

Dr Uwheru revealed that the new management of the PHED was equipped to raise the bar in service delivery through collaboration and cited the recently signed Electricity Act that empowers State Governments to generate, transmit and distribute electricity.

According to him, PHED is prepared to partner with the Rivers and Akwa Ibom State Governments within the ambits of the new Act to improve service delivery in the states.
Both courtesy visits ended on very positive notes, with all parties agreeing to work together for a common goal of improved electricity supply to all.

Also, the MD appreciated staff members who have demonstrated exceptional performance, interface with stakeholders and give back to the society.
He spoke at a Gala/Awards Night organised to appreciate and reward deserving staff with the Governor of Rivers State represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, Mr. Phillip Kikpoye.

Other dignitaries in attendance were the founding fathers of the company, including Dr. Matthew Edevbie, Mr. Augustine Wokocha. The Board chairman, Kemenanabo was duly represented by another board member, Mr Oghens Sanomi.

Other members of the intervention and current board members in attendance were Mr Emmanuel Okotete, Mr. Toibudeen Oduniyi, and Mr. Ismaila Shuaibu.
Various categories of award were distributed to founders of the company, members o the current and intervention board, the Technical Partner of PHED, 4Power Consortium and staff who had excelled and showed outstanding performance while executing their duties.

Dr. Uwheru presented his newly authored books Titled:”The Power of Core Values and Illuminating Pathways: Chronicles of an MD/CEO.
The celebrations were wrapped up with fun events popularly called ‘The Happy Hour’ across all PHED regional offices in the four states.
