23, 000 farmers to access BoI loans in Benue
No fewer than 23, 000 farmers in Benue State are set to access loans from the Bank of Industry (BoI) and other financial institutions.
The loans, The Guardian learnt, would be accessed through the Association of United Farm Products Traders and Livestock Dealers of Nigeria (AUFTPLDN).
National Chairman of the Association, Mr. Isaac Shima, disclosed this in Makurdi during the inauguration of its national, state and local council officials.
Shima said the loans, which would be given out at not more than 10 percent interest rate, would be guaranteed by the association, adding that it would also provide collateral for beneficiaries.
He said what qualified members included registration and evidence of being a farmer.
National Director, Prof. Godwin Obasi, identified lack of commitment as the reason many of such associations oftentimes fizzle out in their infant stages.
A finance expert, Mr. James Jirgba, urged famers to explore modern ways of engaging in farm business.
The Association’s National Director of Publicity, Timothy Hembaor advised the intending beneficiaries to exhibit a high level of integrity and honesty.
