500 people benefit from Lagos surveyors’ free medical outreach

No fewer than 500 people, drawn from the public and members, yesterday, benefited from free medical outreach organised by Lagos State Branch of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) in Ikeja, Lagos.

The programme involved basic health checks like cervical & breast cancer test, prostate screening, blood pressure, blood sugar and eye test, as well as counselling.

After the medical check-ups, individuals were given free drugs and eye glasses.
Lagos State Chairman of NIS, Olukolade Kasim, who spoke on the event, said the programme was part of the institution’s ways of taking care of its members and at the same time giving back to the general public at large.

He said that the outreach was to help prevent underlying health issues before they get aggravated.

Kasim also said that it was a way of complementing government’s efforts in health matters as many states rely on Lagos State for health care delivery.
He stressed that the outreach was part of the programmes marking the yearly general meeting (AGM) of the institution.

Also, Chairperson of the AGM organising committee and Internal Auditor of NIS, Patricia Okoeguale, said that the outreach was for the public’s good and also to prevent underlying issues from aggravating.

According to her, once a person knows what ailment or illness he or she has, then they will be able to manage it, thereby preventing sudden deaths.

Okoeguale stressed that the health status of a person could affect a whole society, which means that the well-being of one, is also the well-being of all.

She, therefore, urged beneficiaries of the free medical outreach to keep up the good work by not neglecting their health after the programme.
