Abia govt urges residents to transact business with old, new banknotes
The Abia State government, yesterday, in a special announcement, advised residents to feel free to carry out their financial transactions with the old naira notes alongside with the new ones.
Secretary to the state government, Chris Ezem, who signed the announcement, stated that the development is as a result of the Supreme Court ruling extending the validity of the old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes as legal tender till December 31.
He stated that residents should be properly guided by this announcement, adding: “Any individual, group or business entity that rejects the old naira notes will be contravening the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and stand the risk of sanctions.”
