Obioma Nwogwugwu, a faculty officer of the Clifford University, Owerrinta in Abia State, has been suspended after he was accused of sexual harassment by a female undergraduate of the institution.
Behind Bars Human Rights Foundation petitioned the Okpualangwa Divisional Police headquarters over the issue and copied the institution about the
incident.
However, reacting to the allegations, the institution’s management suspended Nwogwgwu indefinitely with effect from May 29, 2025, saying that the suspended official will soon face a staff disciplinary committee of the University.
The statement read in part: “The said Mr Obioma Nwogwgwu has been placed on an indefinite suspension with effect from May 29, 2025.”
The institution has assured the public that investigations on the matter are ongoing and justice will prevail.
Thanking the management of Clifford University swiftly for taking action on the issues raised by the female student, the Director of Behind Bars Human
Rights Foundation, Abia State Chapter, Marvellous Ochiegbu, called for fairness and accountability in the investigation of the matter.
Ochiegbu, who spoke on Saturday, said that his organisation should be involved in the process, having raised the issue to ensure that the matter is not swept under the carpet.
He appealed that the female student be protected from any victimisation.
