ACF mourns elder statesman, Malami
Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has expressed shock and grief over the demise of the Chairman of its Board of Trustees (BoT), Amb. Shehu Malami, who passed in Cairo, Egypt, while battling an ailment.
ACF Secretary General, Murtala Aliyu, stated in Kaduna, yesterday: “We regret to announce the demise of our BOT Chairman, Amb. Shehu Malami, the Sarkin Sudan Wurno. He died on Monday, December 19, 2022 in Cairo, Egypt.
“Malami was born in Sokoto in 1937 as a Prince of the Sultanate. He had his early education in Sokoto, Bida and Katsina. He also attended various colleges in the United Kingdom. He had a degree in Law from the Middle Temple and worked as private secretary and then as special assistant to Sultan Saddiq Abubakar III.”
The deceased was said to have earlier worked for the BBC as a broadcaster. At various times, he was Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa; Chairman, Assessment Committee of the Nigeria National Merit Award (NNMA); Director, Nigerian Industrial Development Bank (NIDB), Chairman, Union Bank of Nigeria (UBN) and Chairman, PZ Industries, among many other leadership positions during his long public service that spanned several decades.
Said Aliyu: “The nation will, undoubtedly, miss Malami’s extraordinary leadership skills, his generosity and sense of justice. We send our deepest condolences to his family and the nation. It is our prayer that Allah, SWA, forgives his mistakes and grants mercy to his soul.”
