Again, Navy destroys vessel with 350,000 litres of diesel in Rivers

The vessel

The Nigerian Navy (NN) has yet again set ablaze a confiscated Marine Vessel (MV), Cecelia Imo, carrying about 350,000 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), also known as diesel, in Rivers State.

The vessel and its product were set ablaze in the middle of sea. The action was supervised by personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder.

It will be recalled that on August 16, a Joint Operations of NN impounded a vessel, two tankers and arrested three people for alleged indulgence in illegal oil refining .

According to the Navy, the seized MV Cecelia Imo, a vessel that has a storage capacity of over 350,000 barrels of crude, which ought to be a service boat, was converted to a storage tank for illegally refined products suspected to be AGO.

The NNS Pathfinder’s Commander, Commodore Desmond Igbo, who also paraded the three suspects, said the development will serve as a deterrent to others.

He warned those involved in the economic sabotage to desist from such acts, including vessel owners, suppliers, buyers, and everyone connected, will face the wrath of the law.
