Aiyedatiwa warns workers against wastage, leakages

Ondo NMA hails Aiyedatiwa, laments ‘Japa’ syndrome

• Harps on generation, conservation of funds for development
• Inaugurates new Permanent Secretaries, Tutors-General

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has tasked public servants in the state to key into the state’s financial prudence by frowning against wastages and leakages to free up resources for developmental and impactful projects.

Aiyedatiwa, who sought the support of the workers in his administration’s drive in generating and conserving funds for development, stressed the need for competent, accountable and transparent public service.

The governor, who disclosed this, yesterday, during the inauguration of four Permanent Secretaries and three Tutors-General at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office in Akure, the state capital, re-affirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of both serving and retired workers.

The new Permanent Secretaries are Yemi Pirisola, Idowu Ojo, Olaleye Philip and Mudashiru Adegbegha, while the Tutors-General are Adebayo Ajimuda, Owoka Adedamolola and Dr Akanke Idowu Asogbon.

Aiyedatiwa, while reiterating his administration’s commitment to the revitalisation and efficiency of the state’s public service, said: “A decision like this, which is in the best interest of the state’s public service, is anchored on several considerations. First is the necessity to fill consequentially sensitive positions in the rank of the accounting officers arising from the exit of officers who have met the requisite statutory requirements for retirement.

“Second, appointment at that level requires that state character be reasonably served, and that is what is being done, gradually.

“Third, nothing motivates the bureaucracy more than opportunities for promotion for the operators. That, in no small measure, inspires hope and spurs industry and diligence. Furthermore, the injection of fresh hands holds a lot of promises for the reinvigoration and growth of the system, generally.”

Aiyedatiwa, who gave the hint on the forthcoming review of the new minimum wage, harped on the timely payment of salaries, pensions, and arrears of gratuity, amid limited resources, as evidence of the administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare.

On his part, the Head of Service, Bayo Philips, commended the governor for his commitment to enhancing workers’ wellbeing by implementing various initiatives to improve their quality of life.

Pirisola, who spoke on behalf of other permanent secretaries and tutors-general, lauded Aiyedatiwa for the trust reposed in them, with a promise to serve diligently and support the government in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
