Ajala commissions Tinubu Legacy Building, four others as tenure ends

The Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Rasaq Olusola Ajala, has commissioned five projects, including the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Legacy Building, as part of his administration’s final delivery to residents.

The commissioning took place on Friday at the LCDA secretariat in Ilupeju, Lagos, marking the end of Ajala’s eight-year tenure.

Speaking during the commissioning, Ajala listed the completed projects to include the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Legacy Building, Jide Sanwo-Olu Football Arena, a 9.2-kilometre road, nine solar-powered charging cubicles across the wards, and the donation of 13 vehicles to selected stakeholders.

According to him, the newly commissioned Tinubu Legacy Building contains a 2,500-capacity hall with soundproofing, a resource centre with an e-library, a legislative chamber, a health clinic, 186 offices, a lounge, and an electric lift.

“This iconic building will generate and improve internal revenue, enabling future administrations to develop our community further,” he said.

The council boss noted that the entire building was constructed without external financial support, describing it as a milestone facilitated solely by the LCDA.

He added that the Jide Sanwo-Olu Football Arena was built to support youth development in sports and provide a standard mini-stadium for local footballers and enthusiasts.

“Our football team has made us proud within and outside the shores of our country. This arena meets the demand for a befitting football pitch,” Ajala said.

He explained that the nine solar-powered cubicles would serve the nine wards within the LCDA and are capable of charging up to 50 devices at once. He added that some units had also been given to POS operators as a form of economic empowerment.

Ajala disclosed that over 100 roads had been constructed during his tenure, with the 9.2 KM road commissioned at the event as one of the latest additions.

On the vehicle donations, he said the gesture would ease movement for stakeholders and enhance community service delivery.

The chairman said his administration had fulfilled promises in several areas including infrastructure, social intervention, sports, youth empowerment, health, education, and security.

Ajala also announced the establishment of the Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Transportation and Environmental Corps, OTEC, created to enforce traffic regulations and improve sanitation across the LCDA.

“We employed Road Managers and Traffic Corps members to ensure a cleaner, more motorable environment. We’ve also procured two compactors to aid waste disposal and generate income through recycling,” he stated.

Reflecting on the past two terms, Ajala said his government launched what he called “5 Giant Deals” in the first four years, which were sustained during the second term.

“I believe governance is continuous, but we’ve tried our best to fulfil our covenant with the people,” he said.

Also present at the event was the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, who revealed that he had informed President Bola Tinubu about his attendance at the commissioning. He said the President commended Ajala’s leadership.

“He was full of praises for our leaders who are present, especially the outgoing Chairman of this Council, Ajala Rasaq.

“To my surprise, some of the things he said about you are things I usually say to him in private. I was happy to see that he has truly carved a niche for himself,” Bamidele said.

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, also commended Ajala for his contributions to grassroots development and urged the incoming council chairman to sustain the momentum.

“Our local governments are doing well. Ajala has made us proud. Today, we can see the roads, the football arena. So we must appreciate him.
“To the incoming chairman, the goodwill of your father must not be tarnished. You have no choice than to do well, and we will support you. You have the leaders, and the former chairman will be there for you,” Hamzat added.
