Anambra people back Obi on 2023 presidential bid

Following former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi’s decision to run for the 2023 presidential race, some citizens of the state have declared support for his ambition, saying it is the right path for him.

Speaking in favour of Obi’s presidential quest, former Chairman of Anambra chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Emmanuel Okechukwu, noted that Obi was eminently qualified to run for the presidency of the country.

Okechukwu told newsmen in Awka, yesterday, that Obi remained one of the best aspirants for the top job, given his antecedents as a graduate who has the wisdom, financial back up and experience to govern the country.

He urged all Ndigbo to support a candidate of South East extraction like Obi from across party divides and harmonise the Igbo interest, adding: “We should support an Igbo candidate who made it at the primary of any political party.”

On his part, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Ebenebe, Anthony Okoye, urged all Igbo indigenes to support Obi’s presidential aspiration, while Nigerians should support the South East region to back Obi.

Okoye noted that Obi’s antecedents as former Governor of Anambra State were enough to support his political ambition.

Also speaking, a leader of the party, Chief Basil Nwankwo, urged the state and Nigerian electorate to support Obi in his quest to correct the socio-economic imbalances in the country.

“Obi has the capacity to govern Nigeria, he will address insecurity devastating the nation, improve livelihoods of the masses and restore our dignity in global affairs, among others. And so, we should support him,” he said.

Obi declared his interest to run for the presidency in Awka last week at a meeting with Anambra State traditional rulers, president generals of communities and other stakeholders in the state.
