The Abia All Progressives Congress (APC) Caucus and Stakeholders have rejected the decision to appoint Mr Donatus Nwankpa as a member of the national working committee (NWC) of the party.
Led by the former Speaker of Abia State, Hon. Stanley Ohazuruka, the party stalwarts argued that the process employed by the NWC in the appointment of Nwankpa to replace the Late Francis Nwosu as the National Welfare Secretary as alien to the party constitution.
The group wondered why the Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje led NWC chose to ignore their preferred nominee, Hon Martins Azubuike, who was roundly endorsed by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Benjamin Kalu and the entire members of the Caucus/Stakeholders of the party in Abia State.
Ohazuruka explained that the choice of Azubuike was duly communicated to the National Chairman in his office through two separate delegations led by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Senator Chris Adighije respectively and the National Secretary by a delegation led by Senator Nkechi Nwaogu.
They thereby called on the Ganduje led NWC to revisit their earlier decision, just as they called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to wade into the issue.
They argued that President Tinubu’s intervention will help Abia APC heal from the wounds inflicted on it by similar acts of external interference in the activities of the State chapter in the past.
