APC leadership crisis: Nwafor claims no factions in Imo

The crisis between headship of Daniel Nwafor and that of Dr. MacDonald Ebere in Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a new dimension.

The Guardian gathered that whereas, Nwafor-led executive is loyal to a former Governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha, Ebere’s executive is loyal to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma.

While Nwafor claimed he was in firm hold of the party in the state by the pronouncement of the Supreme Court, followed by a letter signed on behalf of the National Secretary of the party, Omisore, Ebere faction also claimed firm control on their side.

On the above premise, Nwafor, struggling to work towards the end of his tenure this month, said a report in an Owerri-based tabloid alleging that the two factions were reconciling was false, insisting that there was only one party under his watch.

The statement signed by the acting Publicity Secretary, Michael Anyanwu, said: “We have read with utmost dismay, a very misleading story with headline as ‘Imo APC Crisis: Move to Reconcile Nwafor, Camp Hope faction begins,’ published by the Trumpeta, a local tabloid in Owerri, in its Vol 12 No 10 edition dated Thursday, 14, 2022.

“We do not find the publication just embarrassing and unfortunate but it is disappointingly pathetic that the Trumpeta Newspaper could not reconfirm its stories or employ its investigative journalism skills before publishing such falsehood.”

The statement reads: “However, for the avoidance of doubt, there is no faction in the Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) because the Supreme Court had since 27 May 2022 put to rest that misconception through its landmark judgement, recognising Daniel Nwafor-led State Working Committee of the party in Imo State. The National Working Committee of our party drawing its strength from same judgement, had since reinstated us and mandated us to take charge of the activities of the party in the state, which we have done, and are operational.”

Nwafor-led Imo APC, stressed on the judicial action they took, disclosing: “Moreover, as a law-abiding State Working Committee that believes in the supremacy of the rule of law and prevalence of Justice, we have gone back to Court to challenge the illegality perpetrated by those impostors and phoney characters earlier masquerading as executives of the party in Imo and the court case comes up on Monday July 18, 2022.

“The wheels of Justice grind slowly, but surely!”

The statement maintained: “We, therefore, urge members and supporters of our great party, as well as the general public to disregard, jettison and discountenance the misinforming and misguided publication on the Trumpeta Newspaper.

“It is completely false and the handiwork of detractors and mischief-makers,” the statement added.
