The North Central Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that individuals and groups were bribed to endorse embattled National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.

This came ahead of the party’s National Executive Council meeting scheduled for September 12. In a statement released yesterday in Jos, Plateau State, the forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Saleh MandungZazzaga, claimed “dark forces” within the North Central region are working against the party’s interests.

He asserted that these forces are attempting to undermine the region’s bid for the National Chairmanship.
Zazzaga emphasised the North Central region’s unwavering commitment to reclaiming the National Chairmanship, a position the party had previously agreed to allocate to the region. He highlighted the region’s significant contributions to the APC’s success since 2015, including securing five out of six governorships in the recent elections.

The Chairman also underscored the region’s pivotal role in President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 victory. He argued that following the resignation of former National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu, who hails from Nasarawa State in the North Central region, the position should not have been transferred elsewhere.

The statement reads in part: “The endorsement of Ganduje on Monday by a former President of the Senate, Ameh Ebute, who claims to be representing some APC elders from the Central APC for Ganduje to remain as the party’s national chairman, is laughable and inconsequential.”

Ebute is the most unpopular Senate president, who only spent three months and did nothing notable, nor is he known for any achievement.

“The endorsement, which comes four days after the North Central Governors’ Forum, led by the Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, who also endorsed Ganduje, is only showing the selfishness of some of the people from the region who are only doing things for their interest and not in the interest of the region and its people. This is because there is no way someone or a group will claim to be from an area and at the same time will be doing things inimical to the progress and interest of the region.”
