APP mourns Mike Ejeagha, pledges to honour his iconic song

The Action Peoples Party (APP) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of legendary Igbo folk musician, Chief Mike Ejeagha.

The revered artist, known for his timeless hit ’Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo’, leaves behind a legacy that elevated Igbo discography and folklore to global recognition.

In a statement issued by APP’s National Chairman, Barr. Uche Nnadi, on Tuesday, the party praised Ejeagha’s enduring contribution to Nigeria’s music industry, declaring its commitment to preserving his work.

It wrote, “Ejeagha’s passing may have ended an era that began in the 60s and 80s in Enugu State, but as a party, the Action Peoples Party (APP), we’re committed to immortalising the song while working towards the birth of a new Nigeria beyond his musical exploits.”

The party further highlighted its symbol, the elephant, as a representation of strength, unity, and resilience—qualities that align with the late musician’s enduring impact.

It added, “As exemplified by the elephant, a symbol of our strength in unity, resilience in difficult times, and breaking barriers of underdevelopment, we will march on in defending these legacies dear to his heart.”

APP extended condolences to Ejeagha’s family, the government of Enugu State, led by Peter Mbah, and music fans worldwide.

“We pray the Lord Almighty grants them the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss,” he said.

Chief Mike Ejeagha’s contributions to Nigerian folklore will remain indelible, ensuring future generations continue to celebrate his artistry and cultural impact.
