Nigerian Fashion Designer, Ohimai Atafo, professionally known as Mai Atafo has projected a bright 2025 for the African fashion industry with the Mai Atafo SS ‘25 collection.

For Atafo, every year comes with its blessings and challenges so, “I am getting myself equipped for whatever comes in 2025.”In an industry teeming with ambitious designers, Atafo has set himself apart for elevating the ordinary and creating pieces designed to last, being ahead of the curve, Afafo unveiled his 2025 collections while preparing to conquer more territory.

Over the years, Atafo has maintained his position on tasteful craftsmanship. With a catalog of suits and caftans, Atafo has developed a language that appeals to clientele that values the classics.

It’s in the deceptive simplicity of his garments, seemingly uncomplicated pieces, that value fastidious craftsmanship over impractical design. It’s in his design process and how he has situated his brand, Atafo, at the epicentre of culture, as a lifestyle and as a tangible piece of ultra-modern Nigeria.

The 47-year-old Nigerian designer told The Guardian in Lagos during the Mai Atafo SS ‘25 collection show: “We hope that Nigerians will see that we can do things of high quality and patronise us more. People should check out the clothes, touch them, and see the quality. It’s not a gimmick. If something is not done properly, you will be scared to bring it publicly but we are not scared because we know the quality of work we have done.

When asked how he has been able to dominate African fashion, he said: “I don’t know if I’ve conquered African fashion because I am still looking for more African fashion money, but we have our presence in some West African countries, also in South Africa where we have a few clients. Africa is big, so I want to conquer more. There is more to do.

Asked about what 2025 holds for African fashion, he said: “2025 will be of higher trajectory for us because we are doing amazing. It’s been challenging for a lot of people, but the idea is to keep pushing to get the most we can get out of it. 2025 is bright for African fashion even though it’s challenging.

On improvement in female clothing, he said: “The female clothing and the male clothing are almost speaking to each other, taking inspiration from each other. My female clients are advocating that they also can wear good suits, and shirts and, do not want to be left out. I listen to the women always and yield to their calls.

“Fashion to me is life, it’s the air I breathe.  Also speaking, celebrated TV host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, said: “I am excited about what I’ve seen. Atafo work can match any in the world. Year 2025 will amazing for the brand.
