Former Senate President and Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chief Audu Innocent Ogbeh, a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a former minister.
Chief Ogbeh, 78, was reported to have passed away peacefully at his Abuja residence on Saturday morning.
In an emotional tribute, Mark described Ogbeh’s passing as “a huge blow to Nigeria’s political landscape,” adding: “I have lost a dependable brother and friend. Ogbeh was a forthright leader who upheld the sanctity of truth and dedicated himself to the service of humanity.”
Mark hailed the late elder statesman as one of the few political leaders committed to Nigeria’s unity, fairness, and justice, noting that he consistently stood for equity and moral integrity, even in the most difficult times.
“The nation has lost one of her finest and most fertile minds — a man who gave his all in service to both our country and humanity. He will be remembered for his brilliance, forthrightness, and unwavering integrity,” Mark said.
He urged the government and people of Benue State, as well as Ogbeh’s family, to find comfort in his exemplary life and legacy.
Chief Audu Ogbeh’s career spanned decades in public service. He served as Minister of Communications in the Second Republic under President Shehu Shagari and later as Minister of Agriculture under President Muhammadu Buhari.
