Bala Mohammed to reconstruct Bauchi Assembly complex with N7.8b

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has on Tuesday kicked off the remodelling and reconstruction of the State House of Assembly at a cost of N7.8 billion, stating that the project would be completed before the end of his administration in 2027.

He stated that his administration has prioritised the upgrade of the three arms of government to provide government officials with a “befitting working environment” to deliver public service.

Mohammed had reconstructed the Government House worth over N16 billion. He had also built a new judicial complex and renovated the emir and district head palaces across the six emirates.

He added that the Abubakar Umar Secretariat, which serves as the administrative hub for civil service operations, has undergone renovation and has been equipped with essential facilities to enhance the performance of our public and civil service.

“At the local government level, all 20 local government secretariats have been reconstructed and outfitted with the necessary equipment and machinery aimed at improving service delivery at the grassroots.

“Similarly, the judiciary has benefited from this developmental drive. The High Court Complex has been expanded, and contracts have been awarded for the completion of 12 magistrate courts. These efforts are designed to strengthen the judiciary’s capacity to effectively discharge its responsibilities in the administration of justice,” he said.

Mohammed said that reconstruction was prompted “considering the fact that, for nearly 20 years, the State Assembly complex has not been renovated. The need for the complex to be put in proper shape and provided with the necessary facilities has therefore become imperative. The project is being given at the cost of N7.8 billion.”

The Speaker of the House, Abubakar Suleiman, stated that the renovation signifies not only a physical upgrade but also a renewed commitment to transparency, efficiency, and service delivery to constituents.

“The project will modernise our facilities, enhance our working environment and enable us to better fulfil our constitutional responsibilities and service delivery to our constituents,” he said.
