Tragedy struck again in Southern Kaduna as bandits attacked and kidnapped the village head of Ungwan Babangida and 14 others in Kauru Local Government Area.

The youth leader of Dokan Karji, Aminu Khalid, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview.

He said the attackers invaded Ungwan Babangida village at midnight on Thursday with sophisticated weapons, shooting sporadically from vantage positions before whisking their victims away.

The Kaduna Police Command is yet to speak on the unfortunate incident.

Specifically, the attack and kidnapping in the community came barely 48 hours after bandits had kidnapped four farmers in the Libere community on Wednesday, also in the same Local Government Area.

“Among the victims kidnapped in Ungwan Babangida were three women and nine men, including the village head of the community, identified as Babangida Sojiji,” Khalid said.

He added that some of the victims were two labourers who had come for farming activities from Jigawa State and Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

“Kauru communities need serious military action against these bandits who have occupied many villages, and many breadwinners have been gruesomely killed,” he stressed.

“Federal Government and security operatives must intensify efforts to cripple the activities of these criminals who have made life difficult for villagers.”

He also commended vigilante groups for their consistent approach to banditry, noting that they have foiled many kidnapping attempts in some villages.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, could not comment on the incidents at press time.
