Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has directed security agencies to fish out perpetrators of the recent bank robbery in Ikere-Ekiti. Armed robbers on Wednesday attacked two commercial banks in Ikere-Ekiti, the headquarters of Ikere Local Council, killing three persons and injuring others.
The governor, who decried the incident as senseless and disheartening, said no stone will be left unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice. In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, Oyebanji also condoled with families of the victims, the traditional ruler of the town, and the people of Ikere-Ekiti.
He also directed government hospitals in the state to take proper care of those that sustained injuries during the attack. He urged citizens with information that could help security agencies in their investigations to speak up.
“The perpetrators of this heinous crime will not go unpunished. Our security agencies will go after them and ensure they face the wrath of the law. Our condolence to the families of victims of the robbery attack and the Ikere people,” he said.
Oyebanji called on people of the state to remain calm and vigilant as they go about their daily activities, adding that the government is committed to their security, and would not spare any efforts at ridding the state of criminal elements.
In a related development, Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Ogundare Dare, directed the Ikere Area Commander and all Tactical Teams within the command to ensure the perpetrators are trailed and arrested.
A statement by DSP Abutu Sunday, the Police Public Relation Officer, said the commissioner disclosed this when he visited the scene of the robbery for an on-the-spot assessment.
The commissioner, who expressed displeasure over the incident, commiserated with the families of the victims. Dare added: “The command’s tactical squad as well as the military, who were deployed to the scene immediately information was received, engaged the hoodlums who abandoned the three vehicles and two motorcycles they used for the operation and escaped into the bush. The vehicles and motorcycles were recovered and brought to the station.
“The commissioner enjoins anyone with useful information concerning the identities and/or whereabouts of armed hoodlums to contact the police.”
