Barau hails Tinubu for upgrading Kabo Poly to varsity

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing into law the bill converting the Federal Polytechnic Kabo into the Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo, in Kano State.

Barau, who sponsored the bill, said the decision demonstrates the administration’s commitment to expanding access to higher education and equipping Nigerian youths with relevant skills needed for national development.

The President’s communication on the establishment of three new universities in Kano, Akwa Ibom, and Oyo states was formally read on the Senate floor during Tuesday’s plenary, which was presided over by Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, and shared on his official Facebook page, Barau described the approval as a reflection of the importance of education in advancing society.

“As we all know, youths are the cornerstones of the development of all societies. The conversion of the polytechnic to the University of Science and Technology aligns with global best practices,” he said.

Barau emphasized that the country’s growing youth population requires investment in institutions that can drive human capital development.

“In the contemporary world, human capital development is crucial for advancing the national economy and fostering development,” he added.

He noted that science and technology disciplines, particularly those in information and communication technology (ICT), artificial intelligence, robotics, and cybersecurity, are critical to future growth.

“Globally, ICT and science-related disciplines, such as artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, and so on, are at the forefront. It is through institutions like this that we can train our youths in these fields,” Barau stated.

He extended congratulations to the management, staff, students, and the wider Kabo community, describing the transition as a significant step forward for education in the region.
