• Benue House recalls seven members
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, yesterday, kicked off the remodelling and reconstruction of the State House of Assembly at the cost of N7.8 billion, stating that the project would be completed before the end of his administration in 2027.
He stated that his administration has prioritised the upgrade of the three arms of government to allow government officials to have “a befitting working environment to render the public service.”
Mohammed had reconstructed Government House worth over N16 billion. He had also built a new judicial complex and undertaken renovation of emir and district head palaces across the six emirates.
He added that the Abubakar Umar Secretariat, which serves as the administrative hub for civil service operations, has undergone renovation and has been equipped with essential facilities.
The governor added: “At the local government level, all 20 local government secretariats have been reconstructed and outfitted with the necessary equipment and machinery aimed at improving service delivery at the grassroots.
“Similarly, the judiciary has benefited from this developmental drive. The High Court Complex has been expanded, and contracts have been awarded for the completion of 12 magistrates’ courts. These efforts are designed to strengthen the judiciary’s capacity to effectively discharge its responsibilities in the administration of justice.”
Speaker of the House, Abubakar Suleiman, in his remarks, said the renovation signifies not only a physical upgrade, but also a renewed dedication to transparency, efficiency and service delivery to the constituents.
IN a similar development, the Benue State House of Assembly has lifted the suspension on seven lawmakers axed earlier in the year. The seven were among 13 members suspended in February over what the Speaker, Aondona Dajoh, described as “dishonourable actions capable of casting aspersions and causing acrimony within the House.” Six out of the 13 lawmakers were recalled in June.
The Speaker, in a statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Zamber, yesterday in Makurdi, stated that the suspension was lifted because they have “shown remorse, pleaded to be recalled, promising to be of good conduct.”
