What’s your approach to kitchen design? The kitchen is the soul of the house and goes beyond a place to cook or keep dishes. The modern day woman prefers kitchens with larger spaces, adequate partitioning, modern gadgets to make life easy and a proper workstation to prepare food. Women love it when it incorporates both a workspace and a casual space for sitting or dining. Kitchen designs are all about clever use of space, material, and layout to achieve a functional and aesthetic solution to complement the overall house design and should be designed to work in sync with your lifestyle. Consider the following tips to help you set a perfect kitchen you would admire:

  1. Spacing: Modern kitchens have one thing in common; that’s adequate spacing. When planning a kitchen, it’s important to give careful consideration to space and what it is  needed for. Now questions you need to ask are; do you want people in the kitchen with you while cooking? Do you need friends who visit to sit and gist with you in the kitchen or yo do not need furniture in your kitchen? If your answer to these questions is yes, then ensure you consider them in while planning or designing your kitchen.
  1. Triangle of Efficiency: Make sure you have the ‘triangle of efficiency’ in place. Your journey from the countertop workspace to the stove, and to the sink should not be too big or have obstacles in the way. Some say it’s more useful nowadays, given the variety of kitchen sizes and arrangements. You probably can’t change the placement of the refrigerator, or where the sink is in your kitchen, but you can change your relation to these spaces and what you choose to store and set up in their vicinity.
  1. Choose your Colours Intentionally: Don’t be afraid to go for bold colour on your kitchen cabinets from mid to deep colours depending on your taste. If your walls are white, don’t go for white cabinets too; go for a contrast that balances your white hue. Inject a little personality into your space. For instance; coloured appliances are an ideal way to make a strong design statement thereby adding contrast, interest and style to the kitchen. Red appliances in particular suit white or rich dark colour schemes. Play with your colours for a beautiful overview.
  1. Proper Partitioning or Positioning: If items can be put away or stored out of sight, the kitchen will be a much better place to work. Sort all your baking items and pile them together. Sort your cooking items and pile them together. Group the dishes you eat from, glassware, holiday or other seasonal items that only get used once or twice a year, as well as those special entertaining or serving pieces that are used occasionally. Go through all the things you have in your cupboards and then work out where they would be placed best in your intended new kitchen. Also consider partitioning these cabinets away from the work zone.
  1. Make use of Your Vertical Space: Place hooks underneath cabinets to hold mugs above the countertop, or hang a stemware rack in the same spot for wine glasses. Also, hang adhesive hooks on the inside of cabinet doors or pantry doors to hold tools such as small bowls, measuring cups, and other kitchen gadgets, this will free up considerable space for you to store other things if need be. Consider using wall space to hang pots and pans. Keep in mind that any space you can use to hang something will free up flat space inside a cabinet.
  1. Lighting: One simple trick to make your kitchen appear bigger is to make the most of the natural light available. Build your shelves and appliances around the windows and your kitchen will instantly be more inviting.
  1. Flooring: Try to avoid the temptation to go for a highly reflective or smooth surface. Whilst this option is often appealing because they’re easy to clean. Smooth surface tiles can be slippery and sharp. Otherwise, tiles provide a great alternative and are equally easy to maintain. Depending on your selection, tiles can also often be the most affordable solution to perfect flooring.

In all, the best piece of advice for someone designing a kitchen is that you should first come up with a budget. There are a lot of ideas to design your kitchen with. Spoil yourself with settings that make your kitchen not only inviting but also unique. Considering the fact that it is the most used space in the entire building, it should look neat and well arranged. If there is not enough money, then splurge on what is most important or go for the best you can afford. I hope these ideas can help you get a perfect kitchen setting you desire.
