They dont need to screen the president as some of them clamour.. A senator cannot screen his superior national leader. If they cant think decorum they have no business in those chambers ,.Or the president can nominate a minister of state petroleum who reports to him. Thus indirectly the president is still minister for petroleum affairs.

Your comment is totally nonsense, if the president elect to be a minister, he must subject himself to the rule of law, the law is simple, he must defend his portfolio and answer questions surrounding how he intend to carry on the duties of that portfolio that is the law. I agree with you, he can not be oversight as a president, that is also the law, asking a minister of state to represent him at hearings do not release him from the responsibility to answer to the committee or the lawmakers. The constitution is clear there and he swear to uphold same constitution. Do not just type what you imagine argue the law.

George, you are actually the one talking nonsense. The president has already been screened in March or April by the higher authority than the SENATE, the Nigerian electorates. By virtue of being elected the President, he is the final supervising authority in all ministries. By virtue of the election, the president or the vice president can choose to supervise any ministry directly. Even the ministers serve at the pleasure of the president. He can hire and fire them as he pleases. For instance, if the president appoints a senator, or a rep, or a governor as a minister, all of those will have to be screened by the Senate because they were elected for different reasons. On the other hand the president and the VP were specifically elected as the CEO (and vice) to manage Nigeria. The CEO apart from coordinating the affairs of all ministries can choose to supervise any portfolio/ministry directly.

Amador, that is precisely what the president is doing. He is going to appoint Kachikwu as the minister of state for Petroleum. By the way, the reason why the Senate cannot screen the president is not because the President is superior to them. As a matter of fact, the President is answerable to the SENATE in a variety of cases, but just not on this one. The election of the President gives the constitution backing to supervise any ministry he wants directly. Please see my notes below in response to George.

On the issue of the President being the petroleum Minister, I do not think anything is wrong with that. Nigerians have screened and hired him to direct all Nigerian affairs. He can direct such affairs himself where he believes it is necessary or appoint a minister(s) to help him direct such affairs. He need not go through further Senate screening. However, for those who he appoints, which Nigerians had no chance to screen, such persons will certainly be screened by the Senate on behalf of Nigerians.
Whether Mr. President can be able to discharge such functions, we wait to see. Remember that the bus stops at the President’s desk.

why nigeria does things like this, is just beyond me. you release the name, yet we have no idea what minstry this names go to. how are you going to perform any screening? screening involves the ability of the person nominated to do the job. screening means looking for corruption and conflict of interest. This list should have being release with the ministry attached to the name, so the nation can begin to sceening of this people.

The inclusion of some governors who are under investigation for corruption by EFCC makes mockery of the fight against corruption. Only few weeks ago the media carried the news that EFCC had dispatched a team of its investigators to some states to unearth allegations of corrupt practices by their erstwhile governors, R
